Sysco Launches Sustainability Rebrand

Nov. 5, 2008 - Food-services giant Sysco has ditched its old cube logo in favor of a fresh green leaf and the tagline "Good Things Come from Sysco."

The company says the new logo aims to highlight its commitment to quality food, beneficial partnerships, and sustainability across the food business spectrum. The accompanying tagline, Sysco adds, is directed to all audiences: customers, suppliers, investors, the communities in which Sysco operates, and current and future associates.

"Our cube logo served us well for 38 years, but our customers tell us that we've become so much more to them since it was introduced," says Rick Schnieders, Sysco's chairman and chief executive officer. "We want to capture that brand equity and this new visual image will help us communicate the Sysco of today and the future."

In its 2008 sustainability report, the company notes that electricity consumption in the 180 warehouses in the U.S. and Canada was reduced by 6.7% in 2008, by changing the lighting to fluorescent. Sysco warehouses have also reduced the use of plastic shrink wrap by securing pallets with reusable pallet bands, similar to large rubber bands.

In addition, Sysco's fleet of 9,000 trucks and trailers drove 10 million fewer miles in FY 2008 than in FY 2007 due to efficiency and conservation efforts. The fleet will begin converting to the new logo as new equipment replaces retiring equipment.
