Burt's Bees to Cut Emissions 35% in Three Years

July 30, 2008 - Burt's Bees has announced plans to reduce its U.S. greenhouse gas emissions 35% per dollar sales (from a 2006 baseline) by 2011.

The company has spent the past six months working in partnership with the U.S. EPA's Climate Leaders program to take a complete inventory of its climate emissions, identifying key opportunities for emissions reduction.

Energy-saving projects include installing new IT systems for more effective facilities management and replacing conventional lighting with high-efficiency alternatives.

The company is also offering employee incentives for supporting the company's sustainability goals - a move that's already paying off for big-name firms such as Microsoft.

Burt's Bees' new emissions reduction target feeds into the company's long-term sustainability goals for 2020, which include sustainable products and packaging, zero landfill waste, 100% renewable energy, LEED-certified facilities, and 100% employee engagement. Find more information here.
