Kohl's Earns Energy Star Label for 50 U.S. Stores
Aug. 1, 2008 - Kohl's has earned U.S. EPA's Energy Star rating for 50 of its U.S. locations - the largest multi-site certification ever awarded to a retail chain.
Kohl's has implemented a range of energy-efficient systems and practices at its stores, including:
- centralized energy-management control systems
- motion sensor lighting for stockrooms, breakrooms, and offices
- energy-efficient lighting and heating and cooling systems
"Kohl's is incorporating environmentally friendly practices that are also fiscally responsible," says Ken Bonning, executive vice president of logistics. "We are able to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce energy costs while maintaining a comfortable shopping environment for our customers."
Kohl's is currently converting 63 of its 80 stores in California to solar power. Beginning this fall, the company will pursue LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for all new-store constructions.
