Toshiba Offers Takeback for All Electronics Brands

Oct. 3, 2008 - Toshiba's Digital Products Division has expanded its free e-waste recycling program to include everything from laptops to cellphones to GPS units - regardless of the product's manufacturer.

Customers now have two options for getting rid of their old electronics: Customers with products that don’t work or have no market value can dispose of their e-waste for recycling for free. Operating products, or those with some residual market value, can be traded in for cash. Both options come with no obligation to purchase a Toshiba product.

The expanded takeback program now includes more than 20 items. Visit Toshiba’s website for a complete list of which items are accepted, and to determine their trade-in value.

An increasing number of computer manufacturers are now offering takeback programs for old electronics. In July 2007, Dell became one of the first in the industry to offer consumers no-charge recycling services for its own equipment, without requiring new product purchases. Last month, computermaker Lenovo launched a takeback program that offers consumers a pre-paid gift card based on the residual value of the item they're recycling.
