Verdiem's Surveyor Reboot Tackles "PC Insomnia"

May 29, 2008 - Verdiem has upgraded its popular Surveyor power-management software to cut IT energy waste and reduce PC energy consumption by as much as 60%. The new Surveyor 5.0 is designed to help IT managers tackle common IT energy-management issues such as "PC insomnia" - the difficulty in getting networked machines to consistently transition to low-power states when idle.

Surveyor automatically powers down idle PCs but allows IT managers to "wake up" machines quickly for IT administrative functions.

Installing Surveyor can save an organization up to $60 a year per PC, according to Verdiem.

The U.S. Department of Energy calculates that the average PC consumes 588 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, with two-thirds of that power wasted when the computer is left on when not in use.
