Manufacturers Get New Tool to Better Manage Energy Costs

July 31, 2008 - Software giant SAP has unveiled a new tool to help companies more effectively measure, report, and manage their energy use.

The new, enhanced version of SAP's Environmental Compliance application "allows corporations to monitor and reduce energy use, and identify further opportunities to implement energy conservation projects, resulting in lower operating costs and greater benefits to the environment," says Jurgen Schwab, CEO of TechniData AG, which partnered with SAP on the project.

The application will help companies achieve substantial reductions in the cost of their products as well as reduced CO2 emissions, according to Patrick Kennedy, CEO of OSIsoft, another project collaborator. "In the current economic climate, customers are finding that the only projects that can affect the bottom line in the near term are those where information drives the savings," says Kennedy.

The enhanced version of SAP's Environmental Compliance application joins a growing market of energy management solutions. Earlier this year, Logility released a software tool designed to help companies reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and reduce excess inventories thoughout the supply chain.
